MECAM Fellowship 2026–2027 in Tunisia

Applications for the MECAM Fellowship 2026–2027 are now available at the Merian Centre for Advanced Studies in the Maghreb in Tunis, Tunisia. It is a fully funded research residency for postdoc and senior scholars in humanities and social sciences. It lasts from September 2026 to April 2027 and focuses on the theme Imagining Futures Dealing with Disparity. You get a monthly stipend, travel coverage, shared office space and full support to work on your project while joining seminars and networks. Up to eight fellows are selected from all countries. About the MECAM Fellowship

MECAM is a research center that studies the Maghreb and Arab world. It brings scholars together to think about inequality, sustainability, identity and future change. The fellowship lets you live in Tunis and focus on your research. You join weekly talks, colloquia and an annual event week. Your project must fit the theme Imagining Futures Dealing with Disparity and one of MECAM fields like aesthetics, environment migration or inequality. You work with people from Tunisia, Germany and other places.

Eligibility Criteria

This program is for postdoctoral and advanced researchers in social sciences and humanities who want to work with international researchers and discuss future ideas.

You can apply if:

  • You want to work together, share ideas, and join discussions with researchers working in similar topics
  • You are interested in discussing your research under the theme “Imagining Futures: Dealing with Disparity” with researchers from different regions (Maghreb, Middle East, Europe, and others)
  • You are open to looking at your research from a new perspective
  • Researchers from all countries, ages, and genders can apply (including Tunisia)
  • Independent researchers without university or institutional affiliation are also welcome
  • You want to become part of an international research network connecting different generations, regions, and disciplines

Not Eligible

  • Current PhD students cannot apply
  • This program is only for postdoctoral and advanced researchers
