Applications for the DAAD GSSP Scholarships 2025/26 are now available. The Spemann Graduate School of Biology and Medicine (SGBM) is looking for international students to fill up to four PhD positions. These positions are funded by the DAAD Graduate School Scholarship Program (GSSP) for 2025 and 2026. It is a fully funded scholarship program and students from any country can apply. The program aims to give top students a chance to do research in life sciences at a well-known school in Germany. Students will have access to great research facilities and a helpful academic setting.

Eligibility Criteria
- The DAAD GSSP scholarships are open to students worldwide.
- Possess excellent English language skills
- Have an outstanding academic record with a master’s degree in life sciences or equivalent by the scholarship start date
- Have not previously completed a PhD
- Graduated within the last six years before nomination (see exceptions in the “Important information” document)
- Have not lived in Germany for more than 15 months before being nominated
Selection Process
The selection process consists of following steps:
- First, you need to apply to SGBM (Link Given Below)
- Interview Stage: Attend online interviews if shortlisted
- Nomination: Nomination for DAAD GSSP for selected candidates
- DAAD Application: Submit a separate application via the DAAD portal
- Final Selection: DAAD makes the final selection and manages scholarships

- Select “Track 1”: Choose positions funded by DAAD GSSP scholarships.
- Complete the Application:

- Carefully fill out the “Research interest” section.
- Choose up to three supervisors/projects.
- Upload all relevant, unprotected documents.
