Internship Benefits
- Travel Expenses
The program pays for one round trip flight or bullet train ticket. The choice depends on how far you travel. - Getting Your Money Back
- First payment after Month 1 for all.
- Type A get more after Month 2.
Note: If you use overseas banks expect delays. Have enough money to pay first costs yourself.
- Accommodation & Daily Money
Standard rates:- Stay cost: JPY 11100 per day.
- Daily money: JPY 2400 per day (for food and travel).
First month: All get JPY 393900 total. This covers 29 nights stay and 30 days allowance.
Second month (Type A only): JPY 354510 (90% of standard rate as per rules).
- Booking Rules
- You must book your own stay. Keep all receipts to get money back.
- Transport between stay and RIKEN is covered in daily allowance. Submit papers to claim.
- Do NOT book flights without approval. Unapproved flights won’t be paid.
- Commuting Costs
Only students from universities within 50 km of RIKEN can get commuting costs back.
Eligibility Criteria
- Limited positions available for Type A and Type B applicants.
- Applicants from any nationality can apply for this internship.
- Must be enrolled at an academic institution at the time of application and maintain enrollment through the internship period.
- Applicants with a degree wether undergraduate or graduate are eligible.
- Applicants from universities with active collaborative research plans under the Guardian Robot Project (e.g., Kyoto University, Doshisha University, Nara Institute of Science and Technology) are excluded.

Working Hours Policy
1. Core Working Hours
- Schedule: 9:00 – 17:20 on all RIKEN workdays.
- Break: 12:00 – 12:50 (50-minute lunch break).
Note: Attendance is mandatory on all RIKEN workdays during the internship period. Exceptions require prior approval from the supervising team.
